MANUFACTURING ENGINEER

The Manufacturing Engineer will ensure that products are built and produced in accordance with customer specifications and quality requirements. This role works cross functionally throughout the organization with a focus on product defect prevention and detection, ergonomics and safety, and production efficiency. The role will develop process documentation and training for production, and drive DFM activity with product development engineering. This role will support and develop custom software programs and databases linking ERP and manufacturing systems to enable error proofing and efficiency in production.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Supports production employees with hands on experience and direction.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs manufacturing systems using mechanical, electrical, and IT skills.
  • Collaborates with representatives from various functional groups assigned to the product or program including but not limited to design engineering, purchasing, production, quality, manufacturing engineering, and inspection staff.
  • Reviews design, manufacturing, and testing documentation.
  • Develops manufacturing processes and documentation including work instructions, inspection procedures, how to diagrams, flow charts, training documentation and others.
  • Develops and supports custom software and databases to interface ERP with manufacturing systems and tools to minimize defects and maximize efficiency in production.
  • Creates and oversees the preventative maintenance of manufacturing systems used in production with a focus on reducing downtime and repair costs.
  • Participates in PFMEA, IQ/OQ/PQ, and other quality assessments to minimize defect rates.
  • May perform quality inspections of products produced, incoming materials or returns.
  • Utilizes statistics, SPC, and data analysis in performance of duties.
  • Actively participates in ERP projects and improvements. 
  • Participates in the MRB meeting and leads problem solving initiatives (8D and formal root cause programs) to improve process and products.
  • Manages, leads, and participates in projects to improve manufacturing and quality.
  • Utilizes problem solving methods such as Lean, Six Sigma, PDCA, 8D and others.
  • Reduces scrap rates and cycle times all while assuring the quality meets and exceeds expectations.
  • Performs labor and material analysis including: time studies, efficiency reports, BOM analysis and others.
  • Participates in safety initiatives and projects to improve work environment and reduce injuries.
  • Works cross functionally to performs failure analysis on RMA’s and internal failures to determine failure points and implements resolutions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • AS in engineering or technology required, BS preferred. Applicable experience may be substituted for well qualified candidates. 
  • Experience with electronics: schematics, electrical circuits, mechanical assembly, electrical testing, ESD, soldering and packaging strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with databases such as SQL and Postgres.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and troubleshoot software code in languages such as C# and VB.
  • Must be willing to work in a small company environment where adaptation and schedule flexibility may be required on a day-to-day basis.
  • Proven experience with manufacturing improvement projects.
  • Basic understanding of ergonomics.
  • Ability to work closely with design engineers, operations, and procurement departments.
